The Making of a Nation: The Book of Exodus, Part 7 (sermon)

Israel’s time spent at the foot of Mount Sinai was crucial to her identity as a nation among the nations of the world. From a family of 70 individuals when they entered Egypt, they have now grown into a great multitude. But God’s plan for Abraham’s descendants was only unfolding.

This part of the series brings us to the establishing of the covenant that will make Israel into a nation distinct from all other nations. If they will obey His voice and keep His covenant, Israel will become God’s own possession, a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.

Israel’s identity as a nation ultimately depends on her covenant relationship with the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Without this covenant, she is nothing. The same is true with the people of God under the covenant of grace. Everything that we are, and all the have as a people of God, came through our Lord Jesus Christ.
